And The Derm Says: This Is Exactly How You Should Be Washing Your Face
I know, I know you've probably got it down to a science by now, but have you ever once wondered if you were actually washing your face incorrectly? I absolutely have especially since not too long ago I found myself with a patch of pimples that just wouldn't disappear. That's precisely why I asked Dr. Debra Jaliman MD, author of Skin Rules: Trade Secrets from a Top New York Dermatologist to review and tweak my lifelong cleansing technique. Here's what I learned, which I'm happily sharing because I'm sure it will be quite useful for you too!

Tip 1: Sterility Matters
FYI, even after washing your hands, they're probably not clean enough to put on your delicate face. "Never wash your face with your hands as your fingers carry bacteria," reveals Jaliman. (I'm guilty of this occasionally, whenever I'm in a rush.)
Tip 2: Go Mechanical
What should you use? An electronic face brush is your best bet. "Use a sonic cleansing machine to get rid of oil, makeup, and dead skin," recommends Jaliman. "If you don't want to, you can certainly use a washcloth. However, you would need to use a different one each time you wash your face, which will result in a lot of laundry!" (To deep clean my Clarisonic brush heads, I soak them in peroxide overnight once a week.)
Tip 3: Your New Regimen
As for the perfect technique, Jaliman advises keeping your system short and succinct: "Wash your face for 2 minutes. Use a small pea size amount of product and apply gentle pressure. A small circular motion is most effective." (Good to know, as I'd been using grand, sweeping motions all this time!)
