When CoverGirl announced last week that singer Pink would appear in the makeup company's upcoming ads, we were totally surprised. Recently, CG threw us another curve ball when the ubiquitous cosmetics brand announced that singer Janelle Monáe, who is best known for her menswear-inspired style and signature pompadour, would also be a CoverGirl.

Of her new role, Monáe told Vogue.com:

“Growing up and trying to find myself as a woman and experimenting with makeup, I’d go buy magazines,” she says. “I’d see Tyra Banks [in the CoverGirl ads] and I’d think, Wow, she’s beautiful. It never looked like she had on too much makeup. There was just something clean and classic about her face.”

While we always love us some Tyra, she's not the only CoverGirl from the past that had us rushing to the beauty aisle in our local drugstore.
