Remember the olden days when colorful gel manicures were this new, crazy concept (two weeks without chips! Who could imagine such a thing?). Well now they're more than mainstream--in fact, so many people I know don't even bother using regular nail polish anymore.

Of course, gel does cost more, offers more limited color choices and can sometimes damage your nails (depending on the brand used and whether it's removed properly). Personally, I still prefer old-school nail enamel because I like to change colors often, and gel is a hassle to remove in a hurry. But that means I often have knicked-up nasty-looking nails while my gel-ed friends are waving around their flawlessly manicured fingers.
